The student assistant will contribute to analyses evaluating the effectiveness of policy interventions in the transportation sector. For this, the candidate can draw on and learn from our experience in using quantitative methods to evaluate climate policies.

Depending on the available skills this might include:

• Manage rich datasets such as administrative data, mobility and GPS data.
• Get involved with programming and statistical modelling, with a focus on causal inference
• Visualize data
• Conduct literature research and gather information on current policy debate

The ideal candidate:

• Is a master’s student in economics, statistics, mathematics, computer science, quantitative political science or any related field;
• Has experience working with data;
• Has programming skills with R or python;
• Has interest in econometrics and quasi-experimental methods;
• Is able to read and understand scientific literature;
• Is eager to learn.

Candidates are encouraged to apply even if their experience does not precisely match all the aforementioned criteria.

MCC was founded in 2012 by Stiftung Mercator and the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK) and since 2014 it is affiliated with the Technical University (TU) Berlin. Our research addresses the grand challenges of climate change and of governing the global commons. It is rooted primarily in economics and other social sciences.
